Looks To Kill

In case you missed this one on FB a couple of days ago here she is again, I can't even put into words how pleased I am with how she turned out!  This was my first time experimenting with my new Twinkling H2O's which I have up until now only admired from afar on Youtube and everytime I went into Michaels. Yes I am a bit on the cheap side so it wasn't until they finally went on clearance at my local Michaels that I finally got my chance to try them out! lol Unfortunately I was late to the clearance party and all they had left was 2 lonely packs luckily in 2 different color combos so I grabbed them both up for only $7 a piece YAY! for those that dont know that is down from $21.99 a piece previously before the sale!

I really enjoyed working with the Twinkling H2o's and they were used the most in this piece however I also used gelatos, watercolor pencils, watersoluable Neocolors, gel pens, acrylic ink and Montana Paint markers (also acrylic), archival ink, iridescent medium, black embossing powder on the bats only and glossy accents for the eyeballs of the flowers and the eyes on the candy corn which I must say really finished this piece off nicely and made it pop in real life!

With all the shimmering and iridescence going on in this piece the scan unfortunately doesn't do it much justice.  This piece was completed for a swap that I participated in recently, the theme was Halloween.  This mixed media painting is titled "Looks To Kill" and was painted on a 5x7 piece of mixed media art paper that I cut down to size using my pattern craft scissors.

I will be back to post I what I receive in return from my swap partner once I receive it.  I hope my partner likes what I made her, I totally fell in love with it and had a really hard time letting it go lol :)

Miss FrankenFright

I was recently commissioned to paint a 16" x 20" painting on art board of a dark skin nurse with wild black corkscrew curly hair holding a bleeding human heart.  This is what I came up with...  (keep scrolling down to read the poem that I wrote about this painting)

Miss FrankenFright
16" x 20"
mixed media on art board

It started with a bang in war torn 1944
you think your safe
when you walk thru
those hospital doors

until you meet the nurse of nightmares
she’s a terrifying sight
looking after her patients care
they call her Miss Franken Fright

in the dimly lit hall she stands
holding the bleeding heart
while its still beating in her hand
she’s just getting to the best part

she sings “spooky come and spooky go
what I do with my bleeding hearts
is only for the dead to know”

Imagination

Since I was a little kid one of my most favorite quotes has always been "Sanity is the playground for the unimaginative!" I don't remember where I heard it as a kid, I just know that I loved it so much that I wrote it everywhere, in fact I think it is still plastered on my old bedroom door in my parents house. lol  You may have also noticed it at the bottom of my blog here as well and now its finally made an appearance in my artwork, its really about time! lol

I am very much up in the air about selling this painting, I love it that much!!! It may or may not get added to my Etsy Shop, I'm still deciding, but in the meantime here are some pics to share with you and you can order prints of it just follow the link below...

In My Art Journal

I've decided to give you a little peek inside my art journal today because the ACEO that I ended up creating yesterday originated there.  I actually have 2 art journals going at the moment, one is very rough, doodling, sketches and that sort of thing and the other is a mixed media journal for doing more painting and stuff however I rarely find the time to get to that one anymore.  So from the first journal...

After I did this little pencil sketch above yesterday I decided that he was just too darn cute to stay locked away in my journal as a pencil sketch and that he deserved his very own art card to be shown to the world!

So here he is in color...

So when its all said and done I think I like the original pencil sketch better then the ACEO! lol He just seems to look a little bit cuter in pencil then he does in color, maybe I chose the wrong colors?  I'm not really sure, or maybe its just me?  who knows, what do you think?  Is he cuter in pencil or color or does it not make a difference to you? I would love to hear your opinions, comments and criticisms in the comments below!

Thanks for looking! Ciao for now! ♥

2 Paintings + 1 Video

I created 2 new mini canvas's over the last couple of days.  They both started out with every intention of becoming Owl paintings however once I got going on them everything changed and they were speaking to me differently.   I think I should really stop going into paintings with any expectations at all because in the end they are just going to do what they want despite what my expectations for them are! lol

You may recognize the girl in this painting from a previous painting I did titled Pondering which caught on fire the very same day that I finished painting it!  When I started this painting below I had every intention of painting an owl so its not like I went into it intending on recreating this girl however once I finished the background there was just no way I could put an owl on it, it was just screaming at me "NO OWL!"  So I stared at it for a while waiting for a figure to appear in my mind and she appeared so clearly it was as if I had already painted her on this canvas!  I knew she would be reborn again somewhere in one of my paintings without me forcing it so I am glad that I waited and just let it happen because I am really happy with how this one turned out!

For The Love Of Art

Well, Im going into week 2 of this horrible nasty cold that I seemed to have caught!  Though sick I have still been doing some painting though not as much as I would have liked.  I can't really afford to be sick with another show only a week and a half away!

Anywho, with the whining out of the way I can share with you what I have managed to complete here so far. This first painting that I am going to share with you was inspired by the general public at the art shows that I do.  Too often I hear from people about how they love my art and would love to buy some of it but it just doesn't match their decor in their house at the moment!  I just want to scream every time I hear this!  Personally I think that if you are buying art just because it matches your couch, or a lamp, or a rug, then those are all the wrong reasons to buy art!  When you buy a piece of original artwork that is something that is probably going to be with you for the rest of your life so it should be purchased because you have a love for that artwork, because it "speaks" directly to you in some way!  Furniture and our home decor in general will change over the years so if you are buying art only because it happens to match the color of your couch at the moment then what happens when you get a new couch?  I could go on an on.... this is a rant that I am extremely passionate about but instead of ranting about it with words I put my passion into a new painting and so I digress...

After selling completely out of all the mini owl canvas's that I finished previously, I did manage to complete another one which is the first of many more to come.  This owl painting was inspired by a line of Adidas clothes that I was looking at with my husband at the mall recently.  I really loved the neon colors and geometric patterns...

Art, Art, Art & More Art!

Phew.... it feels good to be able to just stop and breathe for a few seconds after this past month that I have had!  As anyone that follows my FB page probably already knows I had a very successful show at Art In The Park beginning of June and sold out of almost all my stock!  This is a good thing, I am certainly not complaining about it lol  however it left me in quite the predicament for my next show which was only barely 4 weeks later and I had to somehow replace all that stock that I had sold!

I have to start by saying a serious THANK YOU to my mother whom without her help this month I would have never been able to accomplish what I was able to accomplish!  I will be forever grateful!!!!!  My mom had a week long vacation from her full time job last week and spent her entire vaca in my studio helping me by doing all of the non creative stuff for me so that all I had to worry about was making art for this next show.  She packaged prints, cut tags, distressed edges, cut stickers out, packaged stickers and much much more and I am dead serious when I say if it wasn't for her help I would be seriously F'd right now!!!!

My show is tomorrow and Sunday and I have to be there at 7am tomorrow morning to start setting up.  For those in this area I will be at Arts @ the Marina this weekend in Leamington and my site number is #3 I would love for you to come out and see me!

So if my mom spending her entire week long vaca in my studio helping me wasn't enough, she also spent her only day off this week (today) in my studio helping me some more.  We worked until shortly after 6pm today, which was the absolute latest I could go and still have almost adequate daylight to take photos of everything from the week and now that that is done all I have to do is relax and make some stress free art til I go to bed! phew, it feels good!

With all that being said, I would like to share with you a bunch of artwork that I have been working on for the show and finally just got photographed today.  I have to say though that I may have pushed it a wee bit too late and alot of the photos are a little bit crappy so I do apologize in advance for that.  I will shut my trap now and show you the art!!!! lol

I finished another mini canvas original painting so I will have 5 brand new ones for my show this weekend!

The mini oddball keyfobs were a huge hit at the Art In The Park so I made as many as I could and still have a few left that are made but I didnt have time to paint their faces so I will have to finish them after the show as well as probably make more so in the meantime heres a few....

They all share the same poem on their tags, the only part that changes is the name at the beginning of the poem, it goes like this...

(fill in name here) the Zombie is always hanging around
she may be just a pretty face but she'll never let you down
she'll look after your stuff, keys, coat, purse locker
just as long as you promise to always love her!

Luna the Zombie

Maeve the Zombie

A new doll that I just designed brand new this month are my Boo Boo Bunnies, they are furry, colorful, little bunny zombies and so far there is 6 of them that are finished, I still have 9 more waiting to have their faces painted so I will share the rest soon.  I also wrote a little poem that they all share on their tags as well, it goes like this....

Boo Boo Bunnies are so soft and cuddley
totally cute and all over fuzzy
you'd never guess that their little zombies
totally cool even though their dripping drool
the Boo Boo Bunnies are living dead and
all they want is a spot in your bed!

I sold out of all my Moe key fobs at Art in the Park and so I made 10 more of them and also came up with a little poem to hang on their tags as well which is brand new, you read it here first! lol

Big Juicy Tears
of Blood & Pain
poor Moe so alone
he's going insane
nothing this Zombie
wants more then a friend
give him a chance
he'll be your bestie til the end!

And as if this post wasn't long enough already! lol I also sold out of all but 2 of my Oodlebits so I had to replenish those as well,  so here are the new Oodlebits....

If you made it all the way down here, thank you so much, you must be a true fan! I think this is the longest blog post I have ever done! lol  Would love to hear your thoughts below... thanks so much for looking!
